#144 18th C. Muse with Lion on Silk

A rare 18th century printed silk under glass featuring a goddess or muse seated upon a vanquished lion. The scene is framed by a reverse painted border under the curved glass cover. Mounted in a copper rim and back. Similar buttons, from likely the same set, are shown in Ertell’s Colorful World of Buttons, PL16 – 8, and 9. Copper loop shank.
