Iris blooms on an aluminum design, stamped & chased, and made to imitate tortoise, over a pearl background. Ca. 1890-1900. The Victorians considered aluminum a precious metal, rarer than gold. Shown in “Buttons” by Epstein-Safro, pg. 128. One iris bloom has lost its stem. Backmarked PARIS with elongated loop shank. Est. selling price is $200-400.
