#28 18th C. Column w/Tortoise Reverse

This unique 18th C. oval features a painting on ivory under glass of the Paris Vendome Column, erected by Napoleon I to commemorate the Battle of Austerlitz. Torn down by decree in 1871, it was subsequently re-erected and remains in the Place Vendome to this day. The unusual reverse is tortoise. The side is rimmed with copper. Copper loop shank.
